The Dybbuk Box

Hmmm, the ol' Dybbuk Box. I first heard about it on some podcast a few years ago. Interesting story, that if you are reading this, you probably know the origin. If not, Here is the quick background. Some guy bought the Dybbuk Box on Ebay back in early 2000's. It belonged to a Holocaust survivor who eventually emigrated to America. A dybbuk is said to be living inside the box, which is basically a small wine cabinet. In Jewish folklore, a dybbuk is a disembodied human spirit that wanders restlessly until it finds a haven in the body of a living person. People who have come into contact with this item have said bad things happened to them or people they knew.

With all that said, now it is touted as one of the most haunted items in the world and of course a couple years later, Zak Bagans ends up with it on his Deadly Possessions show. Nobody ever heard of a Dybbuk Box before this. Ok, people obviously heard of this mysterious Dybbuk Box early on, but suddenly after Zak's one hour advertisement for his Haunted Museum, it became part of paranormal-speak you see them for sale everywhere. Oh, you want proof this is real? Well, say no more. Post Malone, an American musical genius and phenomenon who can runabunchofwordstogether while talkingoveroverarepetitivebeat, after visiting Zak at his Haunted Musuem, experienced a break-in at a home he used to live in, an airplane takeoff where tires blew, and got in a car accident. Enough said. So his former multi-million dollar home was broken into where he no longer lives, his private jet's tires blow up, and his Rolls Royce got smashed up. I'm sure he's a good guy, I don't get the music, but I think he's in pretty good shape.

My thoughts on a Dybbuk Box are they have a creepy story behind them and other than that? Well, I think that most I've seen on Ebay are nothing more that someone going to an estate sale, finding a cool antique weathered storage box, and putting miscellaneous odd objects in there. Seal it up. Maybe bury in the ground to get an older look and smell?

Of course to the person that ends up with it, it is nothing more than a paranormal birthday present. Something that looks old and antique, smells a little weird, and when opened up the find all sorts of strange artifacts like coins, black & white picture of an old woman, strands of hair, vials of soil, maybe a page from an old Bible. It is just a collection of weird things that don't have a meaning but it's cool to see something for the first time. Kind of like urban exploring. It's exciting to see something new for you.

And as we've learned from Zak, apparently just because it has already been opened before, every time you open it, a demon escapes. So I guess when a demon escapes, all you have to do is close the Dybbuk Box and the demon is magically transported back inside? Oh Zak, you silly paranormal goose. Must suck to be the dark spirit trying to escape and some asshole closes the box putting you back in..."Damn you! I just escaped! Dagnabbit, gotta get inside the box again."

This box is so evil that it is apparently in the bowels of Zak's Haunted Museum in a cage, and you have to sign a waiver to see it. Of course, Zak has to be over the top about everything. Just stop. It's a wooden box with weird items in it. But...but...but the guy's mother had a stroke when he gave it to her on her birthday!! Yeah, and my mom died of cancer a week after I got back from a trip to New Orleans. Is that town cursed and killed my mom. No, New Orleans is not cursed and neither is the Dybbuk Box. As a matter of fact, it may be blessed if you can sell one for a nice price on Ebay and people are suckered into buying it.
