Belief in God vs. Existence of Alien Life
Awhile back I followed a link to The Jerusalem Post about a story on Haim Eshed, former head of Israel's space program, who is making some interesting claims about knowledge of alien life.
As for the alien thing, I'm still up in the air on that one. I'm a Christian and do find it annoying when self-righteous athiests say things like "If there is intelligent life out there, that would totally kill your belief in your magical invisable sky wizard, and your make believe religion!"...bla bla bla. No, not really. If there is other life out there, and I don't mean some microbe on a rock, or some single-celled organism is some sort of liquid, my faith is not shaken to the core and I do not have to reexamine my life about my beliefs. If there are actual living breathing creatures, aka: The ETs or Morks of the universe, then I do believe they were created and maybe God has his own plan for them. Maybe "organized religion" would be shaken but I'm not one titillated by "organized religion".
Just because aliens aren't mentioned in the Bible, although some interpret some verses to be ET, whatever, that doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist. Neptune and Pluto aren't mentioned, but we know they are out there. Black holes and supernovas exist but are not mentioned in the Bible. Belief in alien life is not central to my salvation, so it is something I can be interested in, but not necessarily believe. Even the late Reverend Billy Graham, not exactly known to be the kind of guy that is taken in by fringe topics such as UFOs or Aliens had an interesting take on it. When it comes to preachers, even the most hardcore athiest has to agree Billy Graham is pretty on the level and not an outlandish wackjob wearing $10,000 suits, diamond rings, and driving around in a Rolls Royce. This is what Reverend Billy Graham had to say on the topic of extra terrestrial life and aliens:
"The Bible doesn’t tell us whether or not there is intelligent life on other planets–although I find nothing in the Bible that would exclude the possibility. But if there is life on other planets, then God created that life, for God created everything. As the Bible says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…. Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array". Furthermore, if there are beings on other planets that have souls and can know God, then God created them in His image, just as He did us. And you can be sure that He has somehow made it possible for them to know Him."
My faith in God and the existense of alien life can coexist. My faith is not sidelined if alien life is proven to exist or that Earth has been visited by such in the past, present, or the future.
However, in that article in the Jerusalem Post, Mr. Eshed does go on to say there is some "Galactic Federation" involving America and the aliens, and there is a secret underground base on Mars. Alright, now we are getting into silly territory. Ok, sure we have been to the moon and the only thing that has made it to Mars are rovers. Nobody has been to Mars, or maybe that is what they want you to think. Maybe one day people will get to Mars, but in the meantime, I think it is safe to assume there is no "Galactic Federation" and no intelligent life has made it to our neck of the universe.
Finally, on not toooooo much of a political note. If there are extraterrestrial aliens and UFOs, and President Trump kept it a secret...yeah, I do not think any future politician would ever release such information. Of all national leaders, past, present, and future, the ONE guy that would release it would have been Donald f'n Trump and that did not happen.
So until further notice, I do not think aliens are visiting our planet or living among us, and much to the chagrin of smug athiests everywhere, my faith in God would not be shattered even if that was the case.
